Our next Pop Up Natural Wine Bar will be in 2019!
Johan and Diana lived in Cape Town with successful academic careers. But an opportunity arose to buy Fynbos Estate - a farm an hour’s drive north in the stunning Paardeberg Mountains near Malmesbury. That was twenty years ago, and now Fynbos has evolved into a venue for weddings, workshops and retreats. At the heart of the farm is still the wine, made entirely from estate grown grapes.
Andy and Becky, originally from Yorkshire and Derbyshire respectively, were wandering around Africa in 2009, but had a plan to arrive at Fynbos in time for harvest. They left the estate in 2010 having learnt barrel loads about winemaking, but their involvement with that vintage sparked a career change for Andy and he has gone on to make wine in countries around the world, including New Zealand, Italy, Australia and England.
In 2015 Andy and Becky, now based in Dorking, returned to Fynbos to further develop Dragonridge wines and produce their inaugural label, Sonkop.
Our winemaking goal is to make delicious wines in natural ways that reflect the growing conditions of that year. Every vintage will be different. And because we don’t add anything to the wine you can be assured that when you open a bottle you will be greeted with a true impression of one of the most beautiful corners of South Africa.
Through Dragonridge & A. & B. Kershaw Wines, Rose & Protea celebrates the partnership of British and South African friends in bringing the wine that we are passionate about to a wider audience.

"We are proud of the fact that every grape is grown within 500 metres of where it is made into natural wine and put into bottle."
